Red Gregory Newsletter v2 Is Here!
I’m moving my newsletter from Mailchimp to Substack friends! I find this platform to be a lot easier to work with and manage. You’ll still be getting Notion content every week in your inbox, but this time around, I want to deliver more thoughtful commentary and valuable information. Some topics include:
General chat about systems
Rare tips and tricks
Notion formulas
Content creation
And more!
I launched my Notion-dedicated blog in the Fall of 2019. I had bought the domain redgregory.com some time prior, and with no side project in the works and a desire to launch something, I started writing content about a program called Notion.
I had only been using it for a couple months, so my goal was to teach as I learn. I used this strategy as I dabbled in other programs like Roam and Remnote too.
I was surprised to see such rapid growth on my blog into 2020. My views had nearly doubled every month into the summer!
The templates I was sharing were especially popular. As I became more familiar with Notion and the community, I noticed that members were selling their templates and making good money.
There’s no denying that Notion-based projects attract a lot of consumers, and if you play your cards right you can take advantage of the hype while contributing to a lovely growing community.
In this week’s newsletter I want to speak to those who want to create and sharing Notion templates or content. Over the past year and a half I’ve observed some trends in the Notion community, I saw what works, what doesn’t, and what template genres are best to pursue.
A List Of Notion Template Ideas
🏦 Finance and Budgeting: I don’t do a lot of work in this genre, but it’s a huge success whenever I do. A ton of people are looking for an easy to use budgeting system. If you’re familiar with Notion formulas, give this a try.
Personal cash-flow
Monthly budgeting
Invoice management
Timesheet
📒 Journaling: A classic use-case for Notion is the daily or weekly journal. A journal can be a simple daily writing database or a complex habit tracker/task management/daily reflection dashboard. Regardless of the style, this is a super popular genre.
Daily reflections
Mood journal
Bullet journal
Food journal
Morning pages
✔️ Task Management: A broad genre and is by far the most popular for obvious reasons. This is productivity app after all. I recommend creating management “Dashboards.” The word dashboard is quite popular according to my analytics.
Team meeting notes
Team pipelines
Deadline management
Goal setting/progress
Weekly planner
Timetables
To-do lists
✍️ Writing: A genre I wasn’t expecting to be so popular honestly. My article 3 Notion Templates For Writers and others like it consistently outperform my other content.
Story development
Writing habit tracker
Draft management
🍎 Students/Teachers: As the school year approaches these templates are going to be highly valuable. Student management for teachers was my #1 requested template last fall.
Class notes
General student dashboard
Grade management
Student attendance
