With the New Year approaching, I want to update my Notion wishlist. Of course, Notion is my number one program but there are still features I’d like to see improved or created in the year to come. My wants mostly stem from my note-taking habits. Notion is superb for task management but has some setbacks in the note-taking department.
1. Better Search
This is my biggest wish. I will say, I’ve seen a lot of improvement with the speed of search in Notion since I last mentioned this issue. I really like how I can add new pages into a database template as well.
The setback for me is the UI and the speed. As I type, I’d like to see a quicker search result. It takes a couple seconds to load a list of pages that I cannot quickly scroll through without manually clicking x more results. The UI is also busy.
2. Inline Formulas
I’d like to use the metadata from the database properties in the body of the page to make quick calculations and reference data in my notes. This is something I really like about the Dataview plugin in Obsidian. I believe Coda also has this feature.
3. More page style options
This certainly isn’t a make or break, and I very much like Notion’s minimal style. I’d like to see more options for font and page styles. As more and more users are using Notion for content and websites, this could use some attention.
4. Dual Window Sidebar
In the same way we can now see comments and page history in the right sidebar, I’d like the ability to view two pages side by side. For now, I’ll use dual-screen via my desktop with two separate Notion pages. Roam Research comes to mind for a great example of a small page window in the sidebar.
Notion Formula Course Update!
I’m working very hard on a Notion course to learn formulas from beginner to advanced. The course has become a very ambitious project and I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I need to make more edits and final touches before launch later in the week. I’m very excited to share!
I wanted to create a course like this since I started making Notion content. I haven’t launched anything quite like this. In fact, I’m not one to sell templates or Notion-based products. I’d like to make more effort in this department in the coming months in addition to my free content.
